For the last I don't know how many years we have said to the girls that one day we will have our own house and we can paint your bedroom any color you want and we will get a cat. We finally have a house so we figured we'd better get working on the other promises!!! We had said that we wouldn't get a cat right away (although I think Daddy would have picked up the keys to our house and then gone straight to the animal shelter if he could have!!) but after about 3 weeks (constantly being asked when we were going to get a cat - the little one in particular didn't understand "when most of the boxes are put away" and the girls kept hoping and the Daddy ran out of patience and begged to get one!) we decided it was time. We went to an animal shelter and were grateful to find someone who works regularly with the cats and could recommend a few that were really good with kids. It was so hard to choose!!!! We wanted one that was wasn't too tiny (knowing there were 4 girls anxious to give it love!!) but still a playful kitten and one that had short hair since some of the kids seem to have allergy problems with the longer haired cats. We were grateful to have several to choose from and finally picked out a boy...I'd like to introduce you to Tiger...
It took us FOREVER to come up with a name for him!!! He is so fun and playful but also loves attention. He has tiger stripes on his back so we ended up with that name for him. He had a cold when we got him but we got a good report from the vet and some good drugs cleaned him up quite well. His fur has come in nice and thick and he is looking quite healthy after being with us for awhile.
I'm not sure who loves this little guy more - the girls or daddy :) Jon has wanted a cat for a LOOONG time and is happy to have such a great cat. Unfortunately he has been having a love attack at 5:30 AM but Daddy can't resist and they are the best of buds. Every night Tiger waits at the entrance to our closet for Daddy to come and eventually Daddy will get there and get his laser pointer out and Tiger and Daddy have fun with lasers (male bonding). It is by far Tiger's favorite toy and he chases after that red light with so much intensity that he can't play too long or he is completely out of breath! He chases it up the wall and in circles and it is so much fun to watch :)
One of Tiger's favorite things at first was our bird, Tweety. Daddy did a GREAT job securing the cage and Tweety quickly figured out that the cat couldn't get him so every time Tiger tried to get into the cage the bird would go after him with his beak! It was awesome!!! Tiger would go crazy trying to pounce and do a sneak attack and such but after a few weeks he gave up and pretty much leaves Tweety alone. Yea! I love this picture...it looks like Tiger is licking his chops thinking about what a great snack Tweety would be :)
